Storm Katie did her best to call off our 17th Easter picnic but despite the early morning’s threatening dark clouds and the icy winds, blue skies did appear, the sun did put his hat on and we had another lovely picnic in Preston Park.
Over 50 children, parents and befrienders came along to our new sheltered spot in the park and tucked in to the great food and the BBQ expertly watched over by our chair Ralph and his accomplished barbie helper Luke.
Next up were the races! Three-legged, egg and spoon, piggy back, running, special mum’s race… lots of noise, lots of falling over and lots of fun. We even had some prizes this year!
Then it was time for the pinatas – 4 cute pinatas made and donated to Fun in Action by some very kind young people whom we would like to thank so much! We hoiked the pinatas up on a rope from one of the trees and the kids waited in turn to bash them with one of the branches fallen from the storm. So many sweets!
An Easter picnic without an egg hunt is not a proper Fun in Action picnic so we rounded off the day with a trip down to the beautiful walled garden to find what the Easter Bunny had left for us … hundreds of eggs, enough to make everyone, including the parents, happy!
A Very Big Thank You to our local Sainsburys on Preston Road and to the wonderful BUPA staff who once again supported us with a very generous collection of eggs - they made a perfect finish to the day!
And finally a huge Thank You to Sussex Police for their very generous donation towards the costs of the picnic.
