This year at Fun in Action we were determined to throw the best Christmas Party ever for our children and families. The work started months in advance finding entertainers and a new venue that would accommodate our ever increasing brood. This year we celebrated at Manor Gym in Whitehawk and we catered to 132 guests including 76 children. Each decision about the decorations, food and activities were all carefully thought through to ensure that this year's party was decadent and joyous and gave our children and families the wondrous treatment that they all deserve.
The day before the party staff and volunteers came to the venue and spent an entire afternoon and evening transforming Manor Gym into a Wonder Wonderland. Every nook and cranny was festooned with greenery, tinsel, streamers, ribbon and bows and giant Santas, snowmen and reindeer. Only when every decoration was in place did the Fun Team leave.
The next day the party kicked off with an amazing performance by the students of K-Bis Theatre School under the direction of Marcia King. They sang and danced for us which immediately putting everyone in a very Christmassy frame of mind. The songs ranged from a tiny girl solo-singing 'I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus' to the whole ensemble of 20 performers doing a funky dance while singing a medley of Christmas songs. There were classics performed such 'Keep the Home Fires Burning' and 'Silent Night' but also contemporary pieces like Mariah Carey's 'All I Want for Christmas is You'. They had us singing, clapping, laughing and crying. The performance was a Christmas gift from K-Bis Theatre School to Fun in Action and all 20 performers and the director gave their time for free.
After listening to carols our group was feeling famished and ready to munch through the 100's of delicious savouries our Project Manager Anne spent hours preparing in the morning. The food was gorgeous and after savouries the guests got to vote for their favourite baked treats in the Great Christmas Bake Off before devouring every last crumb. After eats the kids made Christmas Tree decorations on the craft table and played Pass the Parcel while parents had the chance to sit in our quiet Christmas room and relax with some punch.
All fuelled up the guests were ready for a Traditional Christmas Treat - PANTO! Theatre group 'The 5 of Us' presented Little Red Riding Hood. The baddie 'Wolfie' and the Dame had us all in stiches. The audience was captivated and happily got involved in the interactive performance with some of our smaller children getting right up on stage and participating whole heartedly. Still now the songs are going through our heads and visions of Wolfie dancing Gangnam Style in underpants are never far from mind. It was truly a brilliant performance.
To finish off the party was our very own Father Christmas who handed out 76 painstakingly wrapped gifts personally chosen for each child. This year Juice Radio did a Toy Drive in aid of us which allowed us to really treat the children and every child left with presents under their arms and big smiles on their faces.
The party was a resounding success and it was as a result of so many people helping to make this year's party so very special. We would like to say a Big Thank You to Marcia King and the Students K-Bis Theatre School, The 5 of Us Theatre Troupe, Juice Radio, Manor Gym, and all of the volunteers who decorated, baked, supervised, ran games, ran the craft table, took pictures, and stayed to clean up at the end. You are all on Santa's 'nice list' :)
A very Merry Christmas 2013 to you and yours from,
Fun in Action for Children
