Fun in Action was given 50 tickets this year to take the children of the scheme and their families to see the spectacular musical Peter Pan, thanks to the generosity of The Anne Bickmore Children's Fund (ABC Fund).
On December 21st 2009 , 29 excited children (and either their parent or befriender) gathered at Brighton’s Theatre Royal eager to see the musical extravaganza for children of all ages and the adults who never grew up! At 1:30pm everyone hurried in and got their seats. The children were then spellbound watching Peter Pan flying about the stage along with Wendy, Michael and John. Captain Hook was a fabulous baddie and the singing, dancing and humour of the Pirates and Indians kept the children enthralled. At intermission excited children lapped up ice creams and everyone from the charity got a chance to catch up and to wish each other a Merry Christmas. After the second half the fun was not over for the children of Fun in Action. Part of the treat from the ABC fund was also a big box of Cadbury’s chocolates and the chance to meet the cast themselves! The children got to pose with the cast for pictures and ask them all about Peter Pan and what is was like to be on stage at the theatre.
What a lovely way to end the year. Thanks again to the ABC Fund for the tickets. It was a day the children will never forget.
But the ABC Fund's generosity does not stop at theatre outings! They also donated food hampers to Fun in Action giving some of our families an unexpected and welcome treat. The ABC fund has been supporting Fun in Action for almost as long as the charity has been in operation. In that time there have been many outings and gifts and all managed with much skill and dedication and with very little fan fair. These are the unsung heroes, the people that not many know about, but who quietly go about behind the scenes improving the lives of children and families and really give a great boost to Fun in Action and many other charities every year. As one little girl said me after the performance at Christmas 'That was just the best ever'. So let's hear it for Anne and her colleagues at the ABC Fund without whom Christmas would not be the same.
