This year the Fun in Action’s Christmas Party took place on Sunday December 6th at the Whitehawk Community Centre. Staff and a great team of volunteers came early to change the Community Centre Hall into a festive party environment. Decorated with beautiful greenery and shiny decorations, the hall was transformed in a 4 hour decorating frenzy.
At 1pm 56 children, 36 befrienders, 32 parents and volunteers arrived many people bringing yummy Christmas treats with them. Arrivals were perfectly timed with the delivery of pizza from Dinner to Go. A huge thank you to them, they donated 16 pizzas and some lovely cakes. And they delivered for free too! A special thanks to Dinner to Go for their generosity.
After feasting, our Circus Skills Workshop began with Tat from Fizzbang Circus. Everyone got involved in learning some circus skills including spin plates, juggling, hula hoop and Diablo spinning. Two hours later and it was time for the main event-Father Christmas! This year Father Christmas came with 2 elf helpers to give presents to every child at the party. Each child was called up in front of the group to receive their gift to raucous applause. Come 5 pm it was time to go home.
Everyone left with a full belly, a pressie and a big smile. It was fabulous to see everyone come together for the event. The atmosphere was of a warm community feeling so in keeping with the holiday spirit. Thanks to everyone who came, a great time was had by all.
Before Santa's visit Fun's Chair, Jon Carr, thanked our office staff, Ghislaine Picchio and Sam King-Grant for all their hard work and presented Fun's Project Manager, Anne McLaren with a framed photo collage in recognition of Fun in Action's 10 year anniversary in Brighton. Anne in turn paid tribute to Fun in Action's vast army of volunteer befrienders whose work over the past 10 years has made such a difference to the lives of many disadvantaged children in Brighton. We would like to wish all the children, families, befrienders and supporters associated with Fun in Action a very Happy Christmas.
