The annual Fun in Action Summer BBQ took place on Sunday August 2 at the beautiful Stanmer Park. Amazingly we had wonderful weather. The day before had poured rain all over Brighton’s Pride.
Turnout was great with 70 people in attendance. We had a terrific mix turn out: children, parents, current befrienders, new volunteers, staff, committee members and family and friends. Stanmer Park is such a superb venue for children. They got to play in the woods, climb trees and swing on a rope swing. We had Frisbee games, kicked a football around and blew bubbles. Odi, one of our current befrienders, came along with his drumming group as a surprise treat for all. Not only did we get to enjoy the drumming but many got a chance to try the drums out themselves. Thanks Odi!
Current befriender and Management Committee member Ralph was BBQ Chef Extraordinaire again this year. Thank you Ralph! Everyone brought a dish and the food was plentiful and delicious. Special thanks to the strapping lads for carrying the BBQ + equipment to our site from the car park!
The BBQ was also an opportunity for new befrienders to get more acquainted with how the organisation works in practice. Current befrienders got a chance to share their stories with the new volunteers and the new volunteers got to meet some of the 63 children (and their families) who are on our waiting list.
Overall it was a grand day with a positive atmosphere and we are already looking forward to the next event!
